There is no happier cat than one who is curled up in a little box.
OK, well, one that is killing a spider might be equally happy, but that’s not as cute.
This wooden box is a drawer I’ve had since I was in college. I got it when the school threw out a bunch of old furniture from the dorms. I had my first foray into dumpster diving, jumping in and pulling out what I could use or give to others. These desk drawers made great shelves for organizing cassette tapes. (Why the college wasn’t trying to sell the furniture is beyond me, they were beautiful pieces, lots of Arts and Crafts and mid-century pieces. It still makes me frown to think of everything that ended up in the dump.)
I don’t have many cassette tapes anymore, so I’ve converted a few of those drawers into cat beds. Lilo would sleep in it no matter what, I’m sure, but I’ve made it a little more comfortable by lining the bottom with a pillow that’s the same size as the drawer. It’s usually dangerous to leave pillows around Lilo, since she has a tendency to eat them. But for some reason she’s never chewed on this one. Maybe because she usually prefers the corners of pillows, and this one’s are hard to get a grip on since they’re shoved tightly into the bottom of the box.
Life is good when you have a box to sleep in.
Every cat can tell you: “The best things in life are free. And most of them are boxes.”
